ANTONIO DE OLINDA

(Antonio José dos Santos) – 1966 – 2015 Olinda, Pernambuco. Enjoying art since childhood, and always living in Olinda, near the sea, he began working with mamulengo, a puppet theater that is very popular in the region. Having completed primary and secondary education, he began painting as an assistant to painter Roberto Lúcio. In 1984, he participated in his first group exhibition, the same year he won one of the awards at the "Salão dos Novos de Pernambuco" and the First Place in the Telephone List Project of the State of Pernambuco, a position he would also occupy in the following year until 1987. Diversifying his work, he made scene props for the films Perfumed Ball (1996) e O Cangaceiro (1996). In 1988, he participated in a group exhibition with Ernane Cortat and Diva Goulart at the Jacques Ardies Gallery. In 1997, he painted sets for shows in collaboration with the Bijari group. He held his first solo exhibition at the Brazilian Art Cabinet of fellow painter Crisaldo Morais, 1988, in Recife, three years later at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Olinda and in 2001 and 2003 at the Jacques Ardies Gallery in São Paulo. In 2004, he participated in the Bienal naifs de Piracicaba, organized by Sesc and regularly presents his recent paintings at the Jacques Ardies gallery to this day. died in 2015
