SONIA FURTADO

1950 – Tubarão, Santa Catarina

Graduated in Physical Education, she dedicated herself to teaching for ten years. In 1979 he moved with his family to Curitiba, Paraná and painted his first painting. The following year, he moved to Brasília and began professionally in painting, participating in several Art Salons and collectives in art galleries. A few years later, he returned to his homeland and settled permanently in the capital of Santa Catarina when he held solo shows at the Açu-Açu Gallery of poet Lindolf Bell de Blumenau in 1984 and 1986, as well as a solo exhibition at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Space in Florianópolis in 1991.
Under the auspices of the French Ambassador, Francois Dorin, he participated in an important group exhibition, “Arte Brasileira”, together with Antônio Poteiro, Edson Lima and Adir Sodré, at The Art Ginza-Space, in Tokyo, Japan (1988). In São Paulo, she presented a solo exhibition at the Jacques Ardies Gallery in 1992. She was honored with a Special Room at the Bienal Brasileira de Arte Naif de Piracicaba in 1993, she also participated in the inaugural exhibition at the Museu de Art Naif in Figueiras, Spain and, in 2002 , was included in the exhibition “Arte Popular eo Popular na Arte” held at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center, São Paulo.
Its theme is all about the land and rural workers. She also likes to portray popular and religious festivals in vibrant, well-selected colors.
